Lucknow: An illegal betting racket is reportedly flourishing unchecked in the Bazaar Khala area of Lucknow.
According to local sources, a man named Mukesh is openly operating a satta (illegal betting) market, using two mobile phones to manage bets and settlements. Despite awareness among local authorities, no stringent action has been taken. Insiders claim that whenever news of a police inspection breaks, a few slips and some money are shown to create the illusion of action, while the actual transactions are managed via mobile phones—ensuring the operation continues unhindered.
Mukesh has even illegally encroached on government land near the Machhli Bazaar in the Turiyaganj locality, where he has reportedly constructed a shop used as a front for the illegal activities.
Shockingly, the operation continues under the nose of local police, raising serious questions about accountability. Sources reveal that a constable is allegedly providing protection to the illegal trade, allowing it to flourish.
Even after the arrival of a new inspector at Bazaar Khala police station, there appears to be no deterrent impact on Mukesh and his aides, who continue their activities with impunity.
The big question now: Will the new inspector take meaningful action against the illegal betting racket, or will the underground economy continue to thrive in broad daylight?
